Cue mindfulness is a psychological technique focusing on increasing awareness of the triggers (or "cues") that lead to automatic or habitual behaviors. This approach is based on the principle that many of our actions, especially habitual ones, are initiated by specific cues in our environment or internal states.

In cue mindfulness, individuals are trained to notice and be consciously aware of these cues. For example, if someone habitually snacks when stressed, the goal is to become mindful of the feelings of stress and the automatic response to snack. By recognizing these cues, the individual gains a moment of awareness where they can choose a different, healthier response, like taking a few deep breaths or going for a short walk.n
This technique is particularly useful in managing habits or behaviors that are often done without much conscious thought, such as stress-eating, smoking, or mindless scrolling on a phone. It's not just about stopping the behavior but understanding what triggers it, which can lead to more sustainable changes in behavior.n
