Anticipation drives motivation

Atomic Habits

A sense of anticipation and makes a habit or task more attractive, thereby increasing the likelihood that you'll do it.

This is closely tied to the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that plays a significant role in reward and pleasure. Studies have shown that dopamine levels increase not just when we receive a reward, but also when we anticipate one. This "dopamine loop" creates a self-reinforcing cycle of motivation and action.

For example, if you dread doing weekly reports, you could build anticipation by rewarding yourself with a coffee break or a short episode of a show you love right after. Knowing that you have a treat waiting can make the task more motivating.
